Susan Hurkins show you two quick ways to copy data from one Excel workbook to another.
Copying one sheet from one workbook to another complex data is a complex task. In truth, Excel has a built-in feature that works quickly for this task, but as always, there is more than one way to work in Excel. First of all, I show you the underlying path of Excel. Then, I'll show you the second method, that's as easy.
Copying one sheet from one workbook to another complex data is a complex task. In truth, Excel has a built-in feature that works quickly for this task, but as always, there is more than one way to work in Excel. First of all, I show you the underlying path of Excel. Then, I'll show you the second method, that's as easy.
To copy sheets from one workbook to another using Excel's user interface, do the following:
Open source and target workbook. (The source workbook contains the sheet you want to copy or move. You will move or copy the source sheet to the target workbook.)
In the source workbook, navigate to the sheet that you want to copy or move.
Click the Home tab, and then click on the Format dropdown in the cell group. After that, select move or copy sheet in the systematic sheet section. In Word 2003, select Move or Copy Sheet from the Edit menu. To bypass the ribbon or menu, right-click the sheet tab in the source workbook and select Move or Copy from the resulting shortcut menu.
In the Move or Copy dialog, select the Target Sheet from the To Book dropdown. Excel will display only open workbooks in this list.
If necessary, update before sheet selection.
If you want to copy the sheet instead of moving it, click the Make a copy option below the dialog.
Click OK and Excel will move or copy the sheet to the target workbook.
Now, try a different technique to do the same thing. I will not call it a shortcut, but it is always another route, it is great in the case of buses. With both open source and target workbooks open, do the following:
Click the View tab and select View Side by Side in the Window Group. Excel will split the screen horizontally, between two workbooks. In Excel 2003, you will find this option on the Window menu.
Click the sheet tab in the source workbook and drag it to the target workbook. If you want to copy the sheet instead of moving it, hold down the [Ctrl] key while dragging the sheet to the target workbook.
that's all there is to it! Next time you need to copy data from one workbook to another, forget the copy and paste feature - just drag the sheet.
Warning!
Shaking a sheet is not without its problems - problems that can later be seen. If there is a process in the sheet that refers to another sheet in the source workbook, then the Excel source will do its best to find the workbook. If this can not happen, then when you run that process you will get errors.
A bonus Microsoft Excel tip
10 things that you should never do by Susan Hurkins in Excel:
Trust default settings: Excel default might be sufficient for some or most of the users, but if you find yourself resetting things before you start a new workbook file, stop it. Instead, open an empty workbook, change those settings, and save the file as a template. Then, base the new workbook files on the template instead of Excel's built-in template. Or change the default workbook.
